Indian rice Sona Masoori is a popular variety of medium grain rice, which comes from Southeast India. This type of rice is also called "Bangara Teegalu", which means "golden ivy". Sona Masoori is characterized by light and aromatic small grains. This type of rice contains less carbohydrates than others and is completely free of fats and sodium. This reduces the energy value of rice, but it is essential for diabetics and people with low carbohydrate content.
Sona Masoori rice has a wider and shorter grain than Basmati rice. Its length is approx. 5 mm. It is less translucent than long grain rice and contains more starch. During cooking, medium-grain rice absorbs a lot of liquid and becomes soft, and the grains clump a little in the finished dish.
